LEARN TO LIFT

Basic Barbell Fundamentals

SIX HOURS – SIX LIFTS

Saturday, October 24 | 12:30 – 6:30 PM

Triform Athletics | Edmonton

Learn to lift with confidence, understand the why behind the movement, and leave the gym knowing more than when you walked in.

Learn to Lift is a hands-on, in-person barbell education seminar led by Auty Brooks and Bambi Gray. This session is designed for beginners, recreational lifters, future fitness professionals, veterans, CAF members, and anyone who simply wants to become more knowledgeable and confident around a barbell.

Whether you have never touched a barbell, have been lifting for years and want a form check, or are looking for new coaching cues and another set of experienced eyes on your movement, you are welcome here.

WHAT WE’LL COVER

Throughout the session, we’ll break down the fundamentals of barbell strength training, including:

  • Squat fundamentals
  • Deadlift fundamentals
  • Pressing movements
  • Barbell setup and positioning
  • Bracing, breathing and creating stability
  • Safe and effective lifting technique
  • Common mistakes and how to correct them
  • Individual form checks and coaching cues
  • How to modify movements for different bodies and experience levels
  • Practical, hands-on lifting and coached practice

This is not a workout class where you simply follow along. It is an educational session. We want you to understand what you are doing, why you are doing it, and how to apply what you learn when you return to your own gym.

YOUR INSTRUCTORS

Auty Brooks brings more than 23 years of experience in the fitness industry, including 15 years working in physical fitness at CFB Edmonton. A barbell strength specialist, Auty is known for making strength training practical, technical and understandable.

Bambi Gray is a Canadian Armed Forces veteran, personal trainer and Founder of Boots to Barbells. WHY LEARN TO LIFT?

You do not have to become a personal trainer to benefit from understanding movement.

Education can make you a safer lifter, a more confident gym member, a better training partner and, for fitness professionals, a better coach.

Sometimes one new cue, one correction or one person watching your movement can completely change how a lift feels.

That is why we are keeping Learn to Lift in person, hands on and interactive. Ask questions. Try things. Get feedback. Learn from experienced coaches and from the people training alongside you.

Come to learn. Come for a form check. Come to build confidence. Come to become better at what you already do.

Proceeds from Learn to Lift support Boots to Barbells, a Canadian not-for-profit helping veterans and serving CAF members access fitness education, mentorship, accountability and community.

Keeping the strength in your service.
